The Sukunka River Valley is a remote area located south of Chetwynd along the Chetwynd – Tumbler Ridge Highway (Hwy 29). Approximately 20km from Chetwynd there is the Sukunka Forest Service Road. The river valley was originally explored for natural resources including coal. Therefore this road is mostly used for industrial use. It is a busy, one lane, rough gravel road which is controlled by B.C. Ministry of Forests. A road radio must be used and correct procedures followed.
Sukunka Falls is located at Km21 along the Sukunka Forest Services Road. Although some have set up tents in this location, this is a day use area with walking trails to 3 sets of falls and rapids.

Hole in the Wall is a Provincial Park located at km50 of the Sukunka Forest Service Road, featuring a natural spring which emerges from a linestone rock face. This is a small park with not much to offer for the ATV enthusiast.

If you don’t need a park or campsite for camping there are many great locations for bush camping, unloading and quadding all along the Sukunka Forest Service Road. Just find a nice spot. Due to the past 30 years of exploration and industrial use, there are many old roads/trails to explore.
Frosney Lake is a our favorite. It is a remote alpine lake with two trails leading to it. The first trail starts around Km 14 and is about a 2-3 hour ride along cutlines to the lake. The second trail leads off from a plant/well site located down a side road at about Km 25 of the Sukunka Road and is very steep. Both trails are for experienced riders.
